Fort St. John council recognizes Legion Month and annual poppy campaign

As Halloween decorations fill storefronts and neighbourhoods across Fort St. John, city council is turning its attention to a different occasion approaching in November.

At Monday’s regular council meeting, council recognized the upcoming period of remembrance, setting the stage for local initiatives honouring Canada’s veterans and those who have served.

With October drawing to a close, the focus is shifting toward Remembrance Day and the sacrifices made by Canadian service members.

Local branches of the Royal Canadian Legion are also preparing for their annual traditions, including the return of the red poppy to jackets and lapels across the Peace Region.

The annual poppy campaign serves as a reminder of the importance of remembering those who served, while community support helps the Legion continue its work supporting veterans and their families.

As November approaches, residents are being encouraged to take part in remembrance activities and keep the contributions and sacrifices of Canada’s veterans in mind.
