Fort St. John RCMP are searching for a suspect after a man allegedly broke into a home and sexually assaulted a resident late Monday night.
Police said the incident happened around 11 p.m. on Tuesday, when an unknown man followed one of the female residents to a home in the 8900-block of 87 Street and entered the residence.
The man was initially scared off by people inside the home, prompting a call to police and a search of the surrounding neighbourhood. Officers were unable to locate him during the search.
Police said the suspect later returned to the home and sexually assaulted a second resident before being scared off again. Officers were called back to the residence, and the Fort St. John RCMP General Investigative Section has since taken over the investigation.
Corporal Jennifer Cooper, an RCMP spokesperson for Northern B.C., said police are concerned about the incident and believe the suspect may attempt to offend again.
Investigators are asking anyone who saw a man matching the description in the neighbourhood, or who may have captured his movements on surveillance or dash camera footage, to contact Fort St. John RCMP.
The suspect is described as being in his mid-30s, tall and heavier-set, with a beard. He was reportedly wearing black pants, a black hoodie and a hat at the time of the incident.
Anyone with information about the suspect’s identity or whereabouts is asked to call the Fort St. John RCMP non-emergency line at 250-787-8140 and speak with an officer.
The investigation remains ongoing.
