Blueberry River First Nations and the Fort St. John Association for Community Living are joining forces on a proposed housing and community development project in Fort St. John.
The two organizations have formally entered into an agreement supporting the proposed mixed-use development, which is being planned to offer more than traditional apartment housing.
Current plans include a mix of market and below-market rental homes, accessible and adaptable housing, and space intended for community-serving uses.
The partnership is rooted in a shared commitment to strengthening the region through inclusive housing, Indigenous housing access and long-term community prosperity.
Jordan Soggie, CEO of the Fort St. John Association for Community Living, said the agreement represents an opportunity to build a lasting relationship while working toward a shared vision for the community.
“This is about much more than developing a building,” Soggie said.
“Our agreement with Blueberry River First Nations strengthens this proposed project and, more importantly, represents the kind of long-term relationship we want to continue building in and for our region.”
Blueberry River First Nations Chief Sherry Dominic also welcomed the proposed project, saying it could provide housing support for members during transitional periods and when facing mental health needs.
Dominic said the building would benefit the Nation, with units set aside for members who need support services.
“Blueberry River First Nations has been part of history in FSJ, so this is just an appropriate project in recognition,” Dominic said.
The organizations said their collaboration is also an opportunity to demonstrate reconciliation through meaningful partnership.
Further details about the proposed development, including its timeline and the number of housing units, were not provided in the announcement.
